The Juniors played very well in the final and the scoreline doesn't give the effort the team put in justice. A great game to watch and the lads and lasses from the Juniors played very well indeed, but unfortunately didin't get the rub of the green on the day. Another fine representation for the club, Well done
(Blues win 2-1 on pen)
A game which was described by the STYL
Chairman as the best Mini Soccer Final
staged at Monkton Stadium had it all.
Great displays by both keepers meant
that loads of great attacking play actually
led to no goals being scored in normal
or extra time.
The game had everything, woodwork being clattered on several occasions, goal line clearances and outstanding saves. A missed penalty in normal time was only a taster of what was to come.
After 50 minutes of end to end football it was the 'infamous' penatly shoot-out.
Yet again the 2 keepers showed it was not an easy task for the penalty takers. At the end of the alloted 5 penalies the game was tied at 1-1, It was only after 12 penalties had been taken that the Blues were declared winners,2-1.
The golds played league winners SAFC in the final and although going into the game as underdogs put on a fine display and were unfortunate not to get something out of the game. After drawing 1-1 at full-time the game went in extra time, the Golds held strong and created some chances but just when the game looked like it was going to go to penalities SAFC clinched the winner in the dying seconds. A great effort from the Gold's and both manager, assistant and all the support from HTJFC were proud. Really put the wullies up the SAFC team.
